Description

The BWOF 9/2006 pattern #114. I guess I like military style - I made this and the black dress one after another, and was considering making the third one in the same style.

    moving on to shirts

I guess I like military style as weel cos I like both dresses! Did you make the sleeves longer or is it just that there are two "styles" to the dress?

I made the long sleeves and then realized I liked them better as 3/4 sleeves :) However, I didn't want to crop them because I wanted to wear the dress in winter as well. Instead of cropping, I fold them twice.

Girl you're fast! it looks really good! I would like a similar dress - what fabric did you use?

Hm... I don't know English translation... It is called bi-stretch over here. I guess it's mixture of polyester and lycra, because it is stretchy yet woven fabric. I wanted a form fitting dress but I was afraid that non stretchy fabric would make it hard to move in. I used the same kind of fabric for the black dress.

Waw! I really like these dresses. Did you have to alter at all the neckline, for me Burda patterns are always cut too deep there. I have a black knit fabric not too stretch and not too thin, I'm thinking of sewing this one for winter in Florida.

P.S. I know what you mean about the TV, I knit or crochet lately in front of it and have my share of white nights next to the sewing machine :) addiction!

I didn't alter the neckline, but I put a safety pin on the inside in order to prevent the dress from opening when I move my hands. Small hands movements don't open the dress too much, but an accident happened to me the first time I wore the dress, when I put off the coat I had worn over the dress :P. I guess small pattern alterations would solve the problem.

I guess I like military style too--great dress! And it's fabulous and very flattering on you! The wrap neckline always seems to be a problem for everybody. If it's secure, then it's too high. If it's where you want it, you are vulnerable to bra exposure... Maybe the safety pin is the simplest solution.
