Description

The zipper broke on a pair of jeans I liked, so I dismantled the jeans and put a zipper in the back.

Then, I took the entire pair of jeans apart, cut both front & back off beneath the zipper, sewed a leg to both front and back (to make an asymmetrical hemline).

(I used an old retro apron from the thrift store to hide the seams and trim the pockets, and then I sewed the apron belt to the jeans' old waistband.)

Then, I used the Sidonie pattern to cut the pieces into an a-line skirt.

Then, I sewed the waistband back on, backwards (because the working zipper is now in the back).

Fun to do, and I like it, but I suspect the pockets are a little bit much!

Materials

Old pair of jeans; thrift store apron.

Very cool. I like the idea of using the apron. My daughter is always wearing out her jeans at the knees. I think I use your idea and get a few extra wear miles out of them.

Thanks! (It was pretty easy, since I used the existing waistband & button... the only slightly-tricky part was getting the back to hang correctly, since I didn't want to insert the pattern's darts, so I could just use the waistband as it was.) Have fun!
