This could be filed in the, What-was-I-thinking-file? I wanted to try to make the Alison swimsuit, but I wasn't going to test it on my precious vintage swimwear material, so I used scraps of knit cotton. I knew going into the project that my material did not stretch both ways, but, um, when I cut it, I forgot, so I just went ahead and made it anyways to see how the fit was width-wise. The bottoms were what I was most concerned about. Well, first I had read all the comments on how the instructions for the Alison swimsuit were anything but instructive, and I admit they gave me a headache, especially with the crotch piece, I gave up trying to figure out what the instructions meant and tried to use common sense instead. I don't think I would use this pattern for a real swimsuit, instead I'd use one I found last week for 25 cents at a thrift sore that is very similar, but with very detailed instructions. If I was 4'8" I think this take on a suit would fit me perfectly. Since I'm about foot taller I have to decide what to do with it. I like my 80's color blocks, and the way the bust part looks with the gather loop-thing, but, should I cut off the top and finish the bottoms into underpants? or cut off the bottoms and have a tank top?

I like your colorblocking too! What if you cut it off and made it into cute undies AND a really cute tank top? If that makes the top not long enough, you could add another strip of fabric on the bottom. It'd fit right in with your colorblocking!
I agree. I think you should make both. Just cut the top long enough and add a band to the top of your undies..or a band to the bottom of your tank like renee said! Either way...VERY CUTE COLOR BLOCKAGE! lol
i agree too!! the colors look great togheter
You are right about the instructions for the Alison pattern, they are pretty obscure. I am just trying to make it myself using this very helpful tutorial by one of the other members - posted on her blog: Kitty Couture. I like your colour blocks too and they make me feel more confident about the swimsuit fabric I bought on ebay which is much brighter than I expected...
Make a tank top - it's cute!
Way rad!
