  Step 1 of 4

  Skirt: Cut two lengths of fabric, 45" wide for the skirt. Cut one piece of fabric in half lengthwise. Sew each half to a side of the larger piece. Hem sides and bottom.

• Step 2 of 4

  Pockets: Cut 2 patch pockets, 11" long and 10" wide. Press under on all 4 sides. Fold over top of pocket and press. Stitch top down. Pin pockets to skirt of apron 5" from top and 3" from each side seam. Topstitch.

• Step 3 of 4

  Waistband: Cut 2 strips of fabric 5" wide x 45" long (cut across the grain). Cut one strip in half. Sew each half to a side of the longer strip. Mark the center. Measure your waist minus about 4". Divide that by 2 and mark each side of waistband from center out.
  Mark the center of your skirt. Gather the top of the skirt to your waist size minus 4". Pin (right sides together) center of skirt to center of waistband. Pin sides of skirt to side marks on waistband. The rest of the waistband on each side will be the ties. Sew waistband to gathered skirt. Turn tie ends right sides together and sew side and long seams up to gathered area. Turn to right side. Press. Top stitch ties all the way across the gathered skirt area, sewing the waistband to the gathered skirt. Apron bottom is finished.

  Apron Top--Front & Back: Since this is an old time apron, there is no pattern. Look at the pictures and cut the top front (a square with a round (or vee or square) neckline. Cut 2 fronts and two backs. The backs can be rectangles with a tab area to button.
