Well, I was going to respond about the "pretty" jacket, but everyone seems to have beat me to it! Certainly a heavier fabric and better pressing, absolutely. Perhaps even some interface betwixt the lining and fabric, as well, make it a little heavier. You may have to alter the cut a bit -- perhaps make the jacket itself a little shorter (ugh, I hate long men's jackets, they make people look short) and blunt out the curves.

I just love to experiment, don't you? I think with a little creativity it could be quite nice. ;) Can't wait to see it if you make it!

I have to agree with the above posts - and to be honest am rather relieved that some others were thinking the same as me. I looked at the first posts under the pic and thought "Am I the only one who feels it could look a bit "sharper"? I think a combination of not enough strengtheneing of fabric during prep. and also lack of pressing. However I think the fabric could be ok - its quite fashionable- and the model wears it well...he doesn't look to bad either!

too busy and craving studio time

Hi Rocketboy, ditto to the comments above (below?). The model is really pretty and the shorts, boots, hat, and garden just add to that effect. However, to sharpen it up I'd still go for crisper fabric, stiffer interfacings, and (drum roll please) my #1 pet peeve with BurdaStyle, better pressing during construction. It looks just awful. I can't believe they posted a close up of that pocket flap without sharpening up that corner. It's amazing. I live in Sacramento, too. If you've never been to Hi Fashion Fabrics on Franklin just south of 12th Avenue I highly recommend it. They have a tailor in house so they carry lots of great suiting fabrics. I'll be watching for your creation to be posted soon!

    working on too many projects

I agree about the jacket! I think part of the problem is the choice of fabric and part is the choice of model. His shape is a bit girlish. I think a heavy wool, better shoulder shaping and as TwoBoos said military style buttons.

    loving IKEA fabric!

Hey! I totally agree with you about the jacket...far too girly! My man wouldn't wear it... I think a different choice of fabric would beef it up a bit and maybe shrink the lapels a bit. I'd go for a subtle pinstripe in a dark colour or rough it up a bit with some khaki and make it a bit more military with different pockets. It's not a bad start off pattern though... have fun!
